ÄNTLIGEN! At last! Kazuo Ishiguro wins the Nobel Prize!

As I said at least five years ago:

Kazuo Ishiguro is one of the greatest authors of all time! He has been my undisputed favourite author for more than a decade, and he is worthy the prize for some of his works alone, like “The Remains of the Day”, “Never Let Me Go” and “The Buried Giant”!

I hope to meet him in person when he comes to Stockholm!

And yes, I already have his autograph!

Kazuo Ishiguro: The Buried Giant – unfortunately not a proper review…

As Mr Ishiguro is my absolute favorite author since many years, and as his latest novel, The Buried Giant, is perhaps his greatest work, I have for so long wanted to write a proper review, but now I give up. I simply don’t have the language, talent, capacity to manage to do it. Instead I would just like to say a couple of words:

  • The Buried Giant is just like the Gospel of St. John. You can read it like just another nice book, or you can spend the rest of your life penetrating the different layers and levels of the story, and with your own imagination and thoughts fill in the blanks… You can also try to think of possible implications for our daily lives, and for our civilization at large.
  • Don’t worry when you hear that this is a fantasy-novel. When Mr Ishiguro “stretches the reality” a bit, it is never for its own sake.

Well that’s all. Not much and I wish I could do it better.

Books: “The Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro

 What is love?

What is friendship?

What is missed opportunities?

What is happiness?

What is loyalty?

And above all: What is dignity?

In my humble opinion Mr Kazuo Ishiguro is nothing  less than a genius,  and this, the greatest of the novels  I’ve  read, is alone worth a Nobel Prize. I you haven’t read this, you’re happy as you  have one extraordinary reading experience left.

På svenska heter boken:  “Återstoden av Dagen”

Books: “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro

Let me state once and for all; Kazuo Ishiguro is my favourite author. His novel “The Remains of the Day” is alone worth the Nobel Prize, if you ask me.

“Never Let Me Go” , that I’m currently re-reading, is totally another kind of novel. It’s a kind of sci-fi novel but without spacecrafts and gadgets. It’s a heartwarming, and at the same time scaring, novel about friendship and a destiny of life totally different from ours.

Both mentioned novels are movies now, but I’ve chosen not to see them as I want to keep my internal pictures undistorted.

As you understand I highly recommend this book. Living in Sweden I use to buy my books from www.amazon.co.uk
